Jodhaa Akbar comes as the weakest link in Ashutosh's presentations. Where is the guy we we've known from Lagaan and Swades? Jodhaa Akbar doesn't even come close to the former two.
Now, as a movie, it is GOOD. But a big disappointment on the application of the script and importance of the characters. I think Jodhaa Akbar is just a beautiful film, nothing more. Neither is it a romantic treat nor is it a thrilling war movie, leave apart being an artsy masala flick.
What I liked about the movie:
The sets and the detail in jewelry and costumes. Hrithik as an actor... He looks being of Turkish descent. He's delivered his dialogues clearly and audibly for once 'baa-adab', else he always slips on clear speech in all his movies. Aishwarya puts up her best work so far. But she looks lost in her sword-fight scenes. Cameras could have projected her better. :-)
What I didn't like about the movie:
The characters like Maham Anga and Sharifuddin Hussain were not closed well. For the jealousy that they're shown to have against Jalal, walking away like an embarassed cat with their heads down doesn't gel well with their character tones. Also, the action sequences were bleak. Only Malla Yudhha cannot make for interesting viewing. In local hindi, "Janta ko kya talwar lekar 'Buland ho' chillaane ke liye bulaaya tha?".
