Tina (Kajol) is a firebrand. She is a rebel, but not without a cause. The huge palatial mansion in which she lives, also houses her alcoholic father Raj Khanna (Rishi Kapoor) whose drunken state leaves him with no time for her. To top it, is a scheming aunt (Mita Vaishist) who with her son Teddy (Mayur) and lover (Pramod Moutho), form the prime cause of the Khanna family's doom. The vile aunt's sugarcoated attempts at creating misery continue, and one fine day Tina leaves her home and flies across the seven seas. Who does she meet there but her sweet and demure twin sister Sweety (Kajol again) and their mother (Rati Agnihotri) the existence of whom she was oblivious of. None of them can escape the sense of loss that a broken family experiences. Tina and Sweety decide to take matters in their contrasting hands. The East may never meet the West, but their parents definitely will. And then begins a time filled with plots and plans, laughs and tears, fun and facades, regrets and reunions.

Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi, is a pungent, entertaining narrative of simple lives in complex situations. Director Rahul Rawail is in top form directing this endearing family film. His deft treatment, Rishi Kapoor's warm presence, Kajol's heroic performance, Sunil Shetty's surprise one , and Rati Agnihotri's comeback makes it a film that does full justice to its name.

The characterisation of various artists in the movie is as follows :

KAJOL : She plays the contrasting roles of the bold Tina and the docile Sweety.

SUNIL SHETTY : He is Sameer , Sweety's love interest. Hep and Happening, he proves to be an able beau to Sweety. His support and contribution in bringing her estranged parents together is immense and total.

RISHI KAPOOR : He is Raj Khanna. Dejected, Defeated and Drunk. An aftermath of the separation from his wife. But a lovable catalyst leads to his transformation, in more ways than one.

RATI AGNIHOTRI : She is Archana. The wife of Raj Khanna and mother of the twin girls. She is glamorous and a woman with a mind of her own. Rather that stand for nonsense, she chooses to live life by her own terms. It takes her own blood to melt her.

MITA VAISHIST : She is the step-sister of Raj Khanna. And does everything to accentuate the negative connotation of the word "step" . In order to usurp Raj Khann's wealth, her schemes are never-ending.

POOJA BATRA : She is Savitri. But don't go by her name. She is a leggy beauty whose biggest motivation is Vitamin M - Money. She is appointed as the seductress to rob Raj Malhotra of his senses and wealth.

PARMEET SETHI : He is the suave Ranjeet. A friend in need where Archana is concerned. The friendship and support however is seen in the light it should not...and trouble brews.

PRAMOD MOUTHO : He is Dr. Saab, Mita Vaishist's ally cum lover. In all her schemes he plays a vital role.

MAYUR : He is Teddy, Mita Vaishit's not so able son. A pawn in her hands, he has to bear the repercussions of her actions.
