The theme of SECRETS seems to be in demand today!! If
'Raaz' has the catchline as 'Do you want to know the
secret?' then Humraaz has 'Between the three...they
share a secret'. The three over here are Bobby
Deol(who has makes a third appearance in the director
duo Abbas Mustan flick after the hits Soldier and
Ajnabee), Amisha Patel (who has an uncountable number
of super duds behind her now - Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne
Lage, Kranti etc. etc.etc.) and Akshaye Khanna (who
made it to the top bracket again after a superb
subdued performance in Dil Chahta Hai). Venus Records
and Tapes Pvt. Ltd. produce and present this thriller
that is directed by baadshahs of thrillers - Abbas
Mustan. The hit jodi of composer Himesh Reshamiya and
lyricist Sudhakar Sharma come together for Humraaz.
The entire music score has Anu Malik touch with it.
This may be attributed to the director duo of the
movie Abbas Mustan as they had a long association with
Anu Malik for all these years - Baazigar, Soldier,
Baadshah, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Ajnabee to count
a few.
'Dil Ne Kar Liya' brings with it some new sound. Udit
Narayan and Alka Yagnik are in their reliable best.
Though the lyrics are ordinary, the number is still
hummable. 'Pyaar Kar' by Udit Narayan, Shaan and
Kavita Krishnamurthy is another good number set in the
style of 80's. It is a number that features all the
characters of the movie and they speak about their
love feelings. The track is much more than just a
romantic number and carries the story forward.
There are not one, not two but at least four
chartbusters in Humraaz - 'Bardaasht', 'Tune Zindagi
Mein Aake', 'Sanam Mere Humraaz' and 'Life Ban
Jayegi'.
'Tune Zindagi Mein Aake' gives so much of an idea of
the storyline of Hamraaz. It has one of the lead
heroes letting his sweetheart know about his
deewanapan, his junoon, his obsession for her. What
better way to express his possessiveness for her by
mouthing lines like...
chuna to door hai, ab naa manzor hai....koyi mere
siwa tera zikr bhi kare
teri tarif gar aaina bhi kare....tod du main usse dil
mera ye kahe...!!!
Udit Narayan sings the number quite well and the
electronic guitar sound after every two lines in the
song is simply superb. Alka Yagnik sings the female
version of the same number. Sudhakar Sharma deserves
an appreciation for his wonderful writing in this
number.
Well, the unconventional lyrics are IN. First
'Kambakth Ihsq' - Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, then 'Jaanleva'
- Moksha, 'Nikamma' - Kya Dil Ne Kaha, 'Khallas' -
Company and now 'Bardaasht'. And as have the earlier
four been superhits, this one too is destined to be so
!! Whats's common between all these numbers is that
they all have been set in the western mould and they
all have relied on BEATS. All these numbers have been
item numbers and so is 'Bardasht'. All these numbers
have featured once as original and then as the remix
of the same and so has 'Bardasht'. Sunidhi Chauhan
sings wonderfully in both the versions, which has KK
in the original and Sonu Nigam doing the Remix
version. A SUPER-DUPER chartbuster.
'Sanam Mere Humraaz' should set an example to tell a
story in the lyrical way. One of the best worded
number in commercial mould in recent times, it is
quite catchy, has excellent music settings (especially
the guitar) and wonderful vocals by Kumar Sanu and
Alka Yagnik. 'Life Ban Jayegi' is a mandatory
shadi-ka-punjabi gaana. So one asks - what's different
- uhhh !!! Well, nothing different, but it's the
treatment that counts !! Sonu Nigam sings with a lot
of heart and his voice gels so well and flows with the
music. Jaspinder Narula gets to sing just two lines
(though she sings for the granny of the hero and not
for the heroine herself!!)
'Humraaz' is a PERFECT example of having something
different from routine 'I LOVE YOU - U LOVE ME' kind
of songs shot in Switzerland !! Venus records, Abbas
Mustan, Himesh Reshammiya and Sudhakar Sharma have a
WINNER in hands!!!
