  Music Reviews

From Dhoom to Dhoom 2 to Dhoom Dadakka- the word 'dhoom' is certainly catching up fast. However, unlike hard core action masala flicks like the YRF productions, Dhoom Dadakka follows the route of hard core comedy, something which can be expected when the likes of Anupam Kher, Satish Shah, Satish Kaushik and Razzak Khan come together. With Sameer Dattani, Shaad Randhawa, Aarti Chhabaria and Shama Sikandar forming the young quartet of Dhoom Dadakka, the music by Roop Kumar Rathod too is expected to follow the youth route.

This is what happens to the best of the songs when they are picturised on lesser known stars! Even though the title song 'Dhoom Dadakka' is sung by the masters of the 'bhangra-pop' genre - Daler Mehndi and Jaspinder Narula - the number hasn't unfortunately caught up to the extent it deserves.

Written by Parveen Kumar Ashk, the number may not boast of the kind of lyrics that you may take with you but the tune and beats are such that they instantaneously make you look for the dance floor. Even more fun is the DJ mix version of 'Dhoom Dadakka' which sets the ball rolling even though it is much shorter and lasts barely 3 minutes. Whatever be the fate of the film, this song deserves to be heard more over the weeks to come.

Picturised on Aarti Chhabaria, 'Hari Om' is an item number written by Shaqeel Azmi and sung by the usual suspect - Sunidhi Chauhan. The number has a similar club setting as that of 'Mahi Ve' [Kaante] though the pace is a little faster here. Aarti sizzles in the song, as required by her character which is a spoof on Rakhi Sawant and though this Roop Kumar Rathod tune isn't the best one has heard amongst the club numbers, it is decent enough to keep the audience engaged while it plays on the screen. 'Remix version' here picks up further pace and goes well with the overall part feel of the album.

Surprisingly there are only three songs in the album with the last one being a Holi number 'Ara Ra Ra Ra Ghar Aaye Chhailwa'. With a traditional feel to it, the number has Udit Narayan kick starting the proceedings with Kalpana taking it up from him pretty soon. Later Roop Kumar Rathod also pitches in a little in this Shaqeel Azmi written number. The song belongs to the same genre as countless other Bhojpuri Holi numbers that one has been exposed to in the last couple of years gone by and hence caters to a restricted audience.

As mentioned earlier, though the title song has a potential, it doesn't seem to be pitched in a way that it could turn out to be a big success in weeks to come. Dhoom Dadakka is a short album with the title song being the best of the lot and the remaining two - 'Hari Om' and 'Ara Ra' turning out to be passable.
