4 of 6 people found this review helpful Drona's flaw lies in its slow pace and the story could have been less like Harry Potter., though it has been Indianised well.

3 of 3 people found this review helpful Drona simply tells all and then proceeds to show it. The back story is given in the form of storybook narration with supporting graphics.

3 of 5 people found this review helpful The problem with this film may be common to any that attempts a comic-book franchise from scratch. Besides mythology, popular Indian literature has no history of super-heroes of its own.

4 of 7 people found this review helpful Drona is a feeling not quite overpowering but purposely underplayed and designed to bring the till-now-barred-in-Bollywood "Lord Of The Rings" genre to our table.

1 of 3 people found this review helpful Drona is obviously inspired by graphic novels which have been adapted for the big screen, for example Sin City. It's got some amazing special effects for a Hindi film. And the director's intention to create a make-believe world with characters zipping across continents and time zones, is stuff of childhood fantasies.

2 of 3 people found this review helpful The actor is assigned one of the truly gruesome scenes in the movie. Like the one where he has a disturbing conversation with his mucous-coated naked clone is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

2 of 3 people found this review helpful The film is set in a fantasy land where there are kings and queens, hooded armies and asuras, mystics and magicians, totem swords and bracelets.

2 of 2 people found this review helpful When an orphaned Drona as a child is forced to live with his abusive aunt and spoilt cousin you are forcefully reminded of Harry Potter then you're plunged into a crass imitation of 1980s video game like atmosphere that is supposedly the villain's den.

The film starts with a little boy named Aditya who wakes from a nightmare and runs to the room of his foster parents to find solace. Instead he gets scorned by his foster mother and is told to return to his bedroom. Dejected by his overly and unnecessary cruel foster parent, Aditya goes back to his room, sits in front of his opened window, and weeps in silence.

1 of 3 people found this review helpful The main aspect that actually hinders the film in every aspect is the extras. With no fault of theirs, they are made to look and do inane things in the background or in small parts as characters. But then every bit of it seems so contrived, that you cannot even pass it off as an element of fiction.

3 of 4 people found this review helpful 'Drona' chants mantras and shlokas, lifts his sword and receives a new set of powers. The complete lack of information about what exactly are his strengths is very unimpressive.

3 of 4 people found this review helpful Drona is a noble attempt to weave Indian mythology and magic into a fantastic adventure story, with help from Harry Potter, Amar Chitra Katha, and the age-old super-hero formula of ordinary-boy-with-problems-discovers-new-identity. Only, it is not quite there.

1 of 3 people found this review helpful Drona is Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings but without an iota of brilliance in it. Like Potter our Drona stays with his cruel Aunt. He is something that he is not aware of. Goldie Behl had embarked on a highly ambitious venture with this one. He bought in the best of talent for the vfx.

2 of 3 people found this review helpful In this world of pubs and pizzas, a superhero epic is basically indigestible. Young generation finds hard to relate themselves with such type of heroic flick until and unless the plotline is strong enough to grab their interest and Goldie Behl has showed his guts in dealing with the subject of fantasy and adventure which the youths of today finds hard to connect themselves.

2 of 3 people found this review helpful The film right throughout from-alpha-till-omega, you can keep construing the flimsy conceptualization of script, clichéd characterizations, and creepy-chaffing screenplay.

3 of 3 people found this review helpful This is the case of a film where every aspect is affected. There's the filmmaker's smug assurance of wowing the audience with visual excesses.

3 of 4 people found this review helpful Drona essentially is designed as a superhero film but sadly his superpowers seem to be nothing more than delivering punches.

2 of 5 people found this review helpful The movie, funnily, reminds you of Toofan, the elder Bachchan's sci-fi damp squib in 1989. Abhishek would want to forget Drona quicker then Amitabh did Toofan though. In the role of the super hero (even though the makers have been crying hoarse it's not a superhero movie), Abhishekh is extremely ill at ease.

0 of 3 people found this review helpful Goldie Behl may have intended to make an interesting film for kids and adults, but he fails to give 'Drona' a right shape.

2 of 3 people found this review helpful DRONA is Abhishek Bachchan. For the first half of the movie the director is getting him to realise who he is; during the latter part of the second half, he realises who he is.

3 of 5 people found this review helpful It’s the worst movie in decades, fighting for the Rotten Tomato Award with Ram Gopal Varma ka Ugh. Goldie Behl ka Drona demonstrates that just getting half-saleable actors and easily impressed production honchos (what were the Lullas of Eros Entertainment thinking of?) are sufficient reason to drive you cashews.
By Ibnlive, October 4, 2008 - 08:52 IST
0 of 3 people found this review helpful Director Goldie Behl doesn't look too far for inspiration – Drona borrows its basic plot structure from the Harry Potter story, and then proceeds to generously steal scenes from The Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones and even the Star Wars movies.

3 of 6 people found this review helpful Drona is warned, open the door, you'll meet death. He opens and voila out comes a ferocious and filthy looking monster. One punch from our absolutely unfit-for-a-superhero-role Abhishek, down goes the monster!
