The world renowned NGO PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) celebrated its eighth anniversary in India recently by having a party at ITC Grand Maratha, Mumbai. The B-town personalities turned up for the party in full force. But the real show stopper was none other than the PETA man himself, John Abraham, who not only did full justice to his role of PETA’s brand ambassador, but also managed to get contributions from the celebs present out there.

Anuradha Sawhney, Chief Functionary for PETA India says, “It was indeed an event to remember. Besides John, celebs like Raveena Tandon, Aditya Panscholi, Rahul Dholakia, Moin Baig, Anju Mahendroo, Poonam Sinha, Urvashi Dholakia, Anu Malik, Neetu Chandra, Ravi Kishen, Yana Gupta, Rahul Dev, Kalpana Lajmi, Soni Razdan, Anju Kumar Dutt, Sonu Nigam and Aditi Gowatrikar were also present to show their support to the cause.” When asked about John’s impromptu thing to raise funds for PETA, she said, “Pramoda Chitrabhanu, one of PETA's directors, was on the stage as she was making a presentation on PETA and was also requesting people to donate as PETA only runs through charity. Seeing that the response to that was very lukewarm, John impromptu went to the stage, took the mike from Pramoda and started interacting with all those who were present there, asking them to pledge for PETA. He was then eventually helped by Raveena Tandon. Within some moments, we managed to rise around Rs 6 lakhs, of which Rs 4 lakh came from celebrities like Aditya Panscholi (who pledged Rs 1, 11,000), Anu Mallik, Shamita Singha, amongst others. Moments later, one person who doesn't wish to be named also came up and donated Rs 2 lakh. After all this, we even offered John the post of a fundraiser for PETA, to which he said that he might just consider the job!”

Speaking about the future plan of PETA, Anuradha said that they have now roped in Amrita Arora as their latest brand ambassador while the Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishan has been selected as PETA’s brand ambassador in Bihar and UP.

Lastly, Sawhney added that her dream list of Brand Ambassadors for PETA included Vidya Balan, Shahid Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Amrita Rao and Preity Zinta.
