"I came to Mumbai to become hero" - Anand Raj Anand

It started with Bappi Lahiri singing for A R Rahman in Guru. Suddenly, Bappi was much in demand as a singer.
Now it's music composer Anand Raj Anand of Dus Kahaniyaan who was called by Pritam Chakraborty to sing the ‘Billo Rani’ chartbuster in Dhana Dhan Dhan Goal.
"It was a pleasant surprise," says Anand who has earlier sung such self composed chartbusters as ‘It Happens Only in India’, ‘Jaane Kya Hoga Rama Re’, and ‘Pyar Aaya’.
"But then I've also called Shankar Mahadevan to sing my tune in Welcome. I guess the trend of one composer singing for another is here to stay. By the grace of God all the songs that I've sung have become hits. And that includes ‘Billo Rani’ which I sang for Pritam and ‘Kiya Kiya’ composed by me and filmed on Akshay Kumar in Welcome.
"Anand Raj Anand who has been around for 15 years feels he has been doled out a raw deal by filmmakers. “No big filmmaker apart from Sanjay Gupta came forward to give me a chance. Today, I'm lucky to be working for both Sanjay Gupta and Sanjay Dutt productions."
How does it feel when Anand Raj Anand's singing is called lucky for heroes from Dutt to Akshay? "Ha, it feels wonderful. I wish some of that luck would rub off on me. I had come to Mumbai to become a hero. I strayed into music. Today, I'm proud to say I'm ready with my first non-film album entitled A.R.A Ishq Mein. It has everything from dance rhythms to emotional ballads. I've waited for years to do this. Today I feel the time is right to invent a new sound when my trademark Sufi-Rock has been taken over by every Tom Dick and Harry."
