By Gaurav Malani, July 7, 2005 - 06:48 IST
Cast: Anil Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, Irrfan Khan, Arshad Warsi, Emran Hashmi, Sushma Reddy and Tanushree Datta.
Trailer Duration: 1 minute 42 seconds
The teaser of Chocolate opens on a Christmas eve in London and conveys that it's an interesting suspense thriller. However the Nikhil Kapoor kinda English voiceover in the background to add that Hollywood feel doesn't impress much and have quite lost their authenticity and charm off lately.
The promo introduces five distinctive friends who've chosen to remain in the foreign land hoping to make or break their lives. Suniel Shetty in his new wayward hairdo plays an obsessed lover clear about one thing - nothing comes in his way. Arshad Warsi in a trendy, urbane look plays a playboy drenched in drug, sex and rock n roll. Emran Hashmi is a passionate musician who sees the world in black and white. Irrfan Khan is a soulful thinker who would prefer to hard work his way up. And then there's the temptress in the gang, Tanushree Dutta who has a dubious past. The five are on to achieve an impossible and illegitimate job but are hauled by the London police and made scapegoats (does that remind of Kaante?).

And then help comes unexpected in the way of Anil Kapoor who makes a late appearance in the trailer. In his crew-cut look with designer glasses, Anil plays a sharp and egotistical lawyer with unmatched legal skills. He demands for the truth from his convicted clients. The trailer ends on the title note where Anil inquires as to what is the 'Chocolate'?
Actually the Chocolate in the title signifies the British slang for illegal goods (as in the Indian slang like 'peti' and 'khoka' that stand for lakhs and crores respectively). Chocolate is a thriller that unravels some deep dark secrets and the tagline 'Sometimes it's best not to ask too many questions!” adds to the intrigue. This slick thriller promises to strike a right balance between style and substance.
Directed by debutante Vivek Agnihotri, Chocolate is produced by Vibha-Ragini of Spice Entertainment and has music by Pritam (of Dhoom fame). So this August sink your teeth (and eyes) into some wholesome chunks of Chocolate.
