Ek Ajnabee: Promo Watch
By Gaurav Malani, October 7, 2005 - 02:27 IST
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan. Arjun Rampal, Perizaad Zorabian
Duration: 1 minute 38 seconds
Slick is one word that strikes your mind when you come across the trailer of Ek Ajnabee. While in his debut venture Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, director Apoorva Lakhia was completely confined to a rural village in Rajasthan devoid of any electric supply, for his second film he traverses the exact opposite way. Opening in the luminous lanes of Bangkok, the promo makes it quite clear that the movie is entirely shot and set in the sparkling foreign city.
A girl is kidnapped. A huge ransom is demanded until it goes bad. And then comes the savior. As Amitabh Bachchan makes an entry, the entire promo focuses on him and only him. He plays the title role as the stranger who rescues the girl. So spellbinding is his presence in the promo that you might even miss out on the other lead star of the film, Arjun Rampal. Perhaps Rampal intentionally underplays his part but charms with his new hairdo and a matured look. This is his second film with Amitabh after the successful Aankhen. Loads of guns, gadgets and glares follow as the trailer progresses. What else catches your notice in the promo is the smart shot-takings, racy background score and some sleek action.

Ek Ajnabee is the story about an ex-army commando (Bachchan) who lands up in Bangkok on the behest of his colleague (Rampal) and gets the job of a bodyguard of an 8-year-old. Baby Rucha Vaidya who made an impressive debut as the daughter of a mentally challenged Ajay Devgan in Main Aisa Hi Hoon plays the chirpy 8-year-old. Quite interestingly the ex-army man quite dislikes kids and their tantrums. But eventually he comes close to this child until she gets kidnapped. From here starts the twists in the thriller with Bachchan all geared up to rescue the kid teaming with Rampal.
Perizaad Zorabian, Kelly Dorjee, Raj Zutshi, Akhilendra Mishra, Dayashankar Pandey and Denzil Smith form the remaining cast. Add to it two big stars, the lead pair of Lakhia's last film, Abhishek Bachchan and Lara Dutta. Produced by Bunty Walia and Jaspreet Walia of G S Entertainment, Ek Ajnabee will hit the theatres on 9th December.
Watch out for this one. Ek Ajnabee appears no stranger to entertainment.
