“They call me a smooch king” - Emraan Hashmi
By IndiaFM News Bureau, September 22, 2004 - 03:15 IST
Boyish, restless and irreverent, Emraan Hashmi is interesting. A debut in Footpath and a hit in Murder. It has been a stupendous start. The scuffle with Sherawat, forthcoming Bhatt release and a stirring smooch with Dia, Emraan has constantly kept the gossip mills busy.
In an interview with IndiaFM, Emraan talks about Tumsa Nahin Dekha, a romantic comedy where he plays a rich brat, Daksh who falls for Jia, a bar dancer.
A particularly impressive debut in Footpath and a hit in Murder. The going's been good…
I am grateful that I got to do these character driven plots. I was advised against debuting in Footpath, but I believed in the character and that's the reason I did it. It wasn't a commercial success but I was appreciated and Murder followed. So yes, things are looking up for me.
Bhatt as a brand is usually associated with sexuality and thrills. How was it to work on a romantic comedy like Tumsa Nahin Dekha?
I must say Murder was far easier. I felt almost scared getting into this one because; comedy is something that I haven't tapped. So the experience was both exciting and skeptical.
The smooch has created quite a stir. What is your take?
[sarcastically] I love it! They call me a smooch king. I am asked to smooch and getting paid for it. I am not complaining.
Tell us something quirky about your beautiful co-star Dia?
She's going to kill me for this.
But we have to know…
Okay. Dia was quite apprehensive about the smooch shot. So we told that it would be shot later. But we decided on a particular date when we would surprise her with the shot.
On that particular day (Sunday morning) on a crowded Mumbai street, I went and smooched her. And I have this habit of giving a dirty grin to my co-star after the sequence. Guess what she does next, she threw her sandal at me!
Murder had lovely music. What about Tumsa Nahin Dekha?
To me, Tumsa Nahin Dekha has superior music. The music of Murder caught on post release whereas with this, the pre-release sales itself is impressive.
Pipeline projects…
Alongside Vishesh projects, quite a few films are on. Besides Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Zaher will be releasing this year.
